About Skylark’s
Our Promise
We offer fresh, unpretentious food served in a stylish, comfortable atmosphere by an attentive, personable staff. A meal at Skylark’s is a welcome oasis from the pressures of life – a place to relax with family and friends.
Food and Drink
Skylark’s chefs create dishes from scratch from our original recipes and utilize local vendors and products whenever possible. Quality ingredients make the difference! We enjoy the art of blending classic favorites with contemporary trends, always evolving while maintaining the integrity of our most popular dishes. Traditional and creative cocktails make each meal special.
Service
A Skylark’s experience is much more than just great food. Our staff makes it their goal to create a welcoming environment, striving to make every guest feel at ease, comfortable and pampered. Going out to dine anytime is a special occasion and deserves creating a memory of time well spent. Whether it’s your first time visit or a weekly destination, we hope to live up to your trust in us. If your time is limited, call for an order to pick up or have it delivered locally.
Ambiance
Located in the heart of Historic 1890’s Fairhaven, Skylarks décor is stylish, but features the warmth of handcrafted woodwork and the deep hues and golden accents of the Victorian era. We are both elegant or casual with our variety of dining spaces both indoors and outside, suited perfectly to your mood and guests. Outdoors, we are sheltered by an ancient chestnut tree, and a tent with heaters, while inside there are two fireplaces to warm winter days. Summer sunshine begins mornings on our sidewalk seating and ends afternoons on the cobblestone walkway. It’s been said that we are one part neighborhood café, one-part elegant bistro, and one part family dining room. There is even a semi-private mezzanine “The Loft”, above the dining room, perfectly suited to gatherings up to 30.
History
In the summer 1995 “Skylark’s Fountain & Mercantile” opened in Sycamore Square, two blocks up Harris Ave from our current location. Originally, we specialized in ice cream treats, candy, and gifts, with a few light lunch options. During our second year we moved to the more secluded cobblestone alleyway off Eleventh Street and changed our name to “Skylark’s Hidden Café”. As our customers requested more substantial food offerings, we remodeled, removing the ice cream fountain stools and gifts, and creating a menu that has grown now to include breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, wine, and local beer.
In 2006 we expanded into the upper 11th Street space with a beautiful full-service bar, tripled our seating capacity, and added live jazz on weekends. Since then, we have continued to grow, further developing our style and quality.
Our updated food menu now features “Bistro” cuisine, homemade soups, burgers, pasta, smaller happy hour sizes, and children’s offerings. Special dietary considerations for the customers of today include salads, “ancient” grain bowls, gluten free items and more. After over 25 years, our story continues, as we continue to listen and adapt.
